WELCOME to the web site of the
New Orleans, Louisiana
CITY PARK TENNIS CLUB

The City Park Tennis Club was founded in 1928 by a group of men who played tennis at City Park and who decided to approach the City Park Board of Directors about leasing three courts for club use. The board approved and the club was officially organized. The late Bill Macassin was elected the first president.

The oldest living member is Wally LaGarde at 92 years old.

Over the years, the Club has played on three different surfaces, starting on tan colored clay, red brick dust and the present green rubico. The rubico seems to be the favorite surface of the members.

NIGHT COURT PROGRAM

The club has rented Court 30 on Monday and Wednesday nights through August to provide additional court time for members from our normal hours (up to 6:30p.m.) till 9:00p.m. The court will be a "challenge" type format so that one group does not monopolize the court. Rules are posted outside the court.

Begins May 17th on every Monday and Wednesday night thereafter on one reserved rubico court from 6:30pm to 9:00pm, check for court assignment. Open to all CPTC members with current dues paid at no additional cost beyond club membership. Designed for a minimum wait for court play as described below plus to encourage new younger players that work all day to join CPTC.

  • Program rules will be posted on fence of reserved court
  • Doubles precedes singles
  • Racket in fence announces a member is waiting
  • Players must stop after 4th game if a member or members are waiting.
    • 4 players must spin racket to determine who sits out depending on the number of members waiting.
    • 2 players must invite a waiting member to hit and/or play 2on1 until a 4th member arrives or one drops out to rest.
  • Balancing player and team skills within a foursome is helpful for good sportsmanship and an enjoyable time for all.
  • Most other courts will be occupied by Ladies and/or Men's league play so remember your court manners, bring your own refreshments and have some fun.
